KUALA LUMPUR: Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said his ministry is still in the process of gathering information regarding an allegation involving a Malaysian student, whose MyKad and Malaysian driving licence were reportedly found on a battlefield in Ukraine.
He said that any updates on the case would be shared with the media once the ministry has received complete information on the matter.
"It is premature for me to comment on anything; I have to verify the facts first. If there is anything, we will inform the media," Zambry said when approached after attending Friday prayers at the Muhammad Al-Fateh Mosque, UPNM.
Previously, photos showing a MyKad and Malaysian driving licence allegedly found on a battlefield went viral. The documents were reportedly discovered after Russian forces took a Ukrainian position in Levadne, Zaporizhzhia.
In response, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain confirmed that the student is pursuing studies in the area, following discussions with the student's family.
He also said that the police have been in contact with the Russian Embassy.
