KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhammad Akmal Saleh has proposed the establishment of a Royal Commission of Inquiry to investigate issues related to FashionValet (FV) and the National Farmers' Organisation (Nafas).
In a Facebook post, Dr Akmal said while financial fluctuations are normal for businesses, any situation involving public funds requires a thorough and transparent investigation.
"Profits and losses are common in companies, but if the funds come from public resources, a transparent investigation must be conducted and presented as a lesson for the future.
"Therefore, we propose a Royal Commission of Inquiry be established to investigate two matters that have become a national controversy," he wrote, referring to FashionValet and Nafas.
On Oct 29, the Finance Ministry revealed in the Dewan Rakyat, that Khazanah Nasional Bhd and Permodalan Nasional Bhd's lost RM43.9 million from the sale of their minority stakes in FV.
In 2018, Khazanah invested RM27 million and PNB RM20 million for minority stakes in FV. These stakes were sold for just RM3.1 million.
On Oct 29, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that it is investigating a cartel involved in the distribution and supply of padi fertiliser contracts linked to a ministry, with a total value of RM1.8 billion.
The next day, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said the ministry was ready to cooperate with the MACC, following the revelation of a cartel involved in the distribution and supply of padi fertiliser contracts worth RM1.8 billion.
According to Buletin Utama, its minister said he welcomed the investigation made by MACC on Nafas.
Yesterday, Anwar said he would leave it to the authorities to investigate any case involving Khazanah.
He said he would not prevent an investigation into the company.
He also said that the investigation into Nafas should be left to the MACC.
