[UPDATED] Kelantan Umno Youth chief is BN's candidate for Nenggiri by-election

KOTA BARU: Kelantan Umno Youth chief Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani has been announced as Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Nenggiri state seat by-election, which has been fixed for polling on Aug 17.

The announcement was made by State Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub, who is also the BN operations director for Nenggiri by-election.

"He (Azmawi) was selected as BN candidate in the by-election due to his commitment and hard work for the party. He is also active in the youth movement and several non-governmental organisations (NGOs)."

"With the assistance from all, l am confident that Azmawi will bring victory to our party in the coming by-election," he said.

Jazlan added that Umno machineries from all states, except for Sabah, will provide their assistance to Kelantan BN in the by-election."

Meanwhile, Asmawi said he will use his 14 years of experience in politics in his attempt to help BN to win support from constituents in Nenggiri.

"I hope to attract more youths and Orang Asli people to support and cast their votes for BN," he said.

The 38-year-old father of four expressed his hope for full support from the Nenggiri voters.

The Nenggiri by-election was called after the Kelantan Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah declared the state seat previously held by Mohd Azizi Abu Naim vacant.

Mohd Azizi, who is also the Gua Musang MP, is among the seven elected representatives sacked from Bersatu for declaring their support for the unity government.

During the Kelantan state election in August last year, Mohd Azizi secured a slim majority of 810 votes to win Nenggiri in a straight fight against a BN candidate.
