KAJANG: A 31-year-old man was detained yesterday after a video of him engaging in a confrontation with a toll attendant at a toll plaza near Jalan Batu 9 Cheras went viral on social media.
Kajang police chief Assistant Commissioner Nazron Abd Yusof said the man who drove a Perodua Alza during the incident was nabbed in a housing estate in Hulu Langat, Selangor, about 7pm to assist in investigation.
"Preliminary urine test on the man came back positive for methamphetamine.
"The man also has a history of criminal activity, with 17 prior offences recorded against him," he said in a statement today.
Police came across the video at 11.13am when it was posted on the Paultan.org Automotive/Car Discussion Group Facebook. It showed the man exiting his vehicle and approaching the toll counter.
The man was seen shouting at the toll attendant, using foul language and kicking the counter wall.
Nazron said police launched an investigation after the toll attendant, a 22-year-old woman, reported the incident.
"The attendant explained that the confrontation began when the man was reprimanded for forcefully tapping the Touch 'n Go card reader.
"The man reportedly became enraged, verbally abusing the attendant and then damaged the toll booth," he added
The case is investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief, which carries a penalty of up to two years imprisonment, a fine or both.
The case is also investigated under Section 14 of the Minor Offenses Act 1955, which can lead to a maximum fine of RM100, and Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug-related offences.
