SHAH ALAM: "Through thick or thin, my friends and I will always been with him. We won't leave him because we want to remain friends until the end."
Those were words from Muhammad Nazrul Aiman Nasrudin, 24, when describing his friendship with Haikal Haziq Jamhari, 24, a person with disability who has a stump on his right leg.
Their story gained attention when one of their other friends
uploaded a video on TikTok which showed their group of friends help bringing the wheelchair-bound Haikal out for recreational activities.
The video gained more than 2 million views and netizens praised the youngsters for their strong bond.
Nazrul and his two other friends Muhammad Adib Fikri Rosman, 24, and Amirullah Hairul Azman, 24, will help to push Haikal on his wheelchair when they go out jogging.
Nazrul, who works as a nurse at private medical centre in Subang Jaya, Selangor, said the video was recorded last Wednesday when they went for a jog in Bukit Gasing, Petaling Jaya.
"We often spend our free time together. It will be the seven of us.
"Whenever we go out, we never leave Kal (Haikal's nickname) behind because he is always at home working as a product agent on social media.
"Kal appreciates it very much, and he never stops thanking us. When we go uphill during a hike, we hold him. He will walk with his one leg, and we will carry his wheelchair . We're happy to help because we want to understand what it's like to be in his shoes," he told Harian Metro.
Nazrul and Haikal first became friends when they were in Form One.
"We knew each other since we were in school. We've been good friends ever since. We were in the same school and we stay in the same housing area in Sungai Besar.
"Kal was an active person as he loved extreme sports. He was involved in accident in 2018, which eventually led to his right leg being amputated. After it happened, he felt very down and he never went out of the house.
"He suffered from depression for two years, but my friends and I motivated him. He changed from an introvert and is now active again. He regained his spirit."
Nazrul said he and his freinds are planning to take Haikal for a holiday.
"We plan to go for a holiday in Terengganu and to go overseas. We don't want to leave Kal behind," he said.
