Sabah CM urges PWD to speed up repairs on 'moon-like' roads

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Public Works Department (PWD) has been told to expedite repair works for damaged roads in the state.

Referring to the "moon-like" roads, a term coined by Sabahans over the pothole-ridden roads in the state, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the department should be more proactive.

"Pay attention to the people's grievances. These are regular complaints. I want the state PWD to find an immediate solution to the problems.

"We must be proactive. If need be, order the concessionaires to repair the damages immediately. We must always think about the people's needs.

"Without action, the government and PWD will continue to get backlash from the people," he said during his working visit to the Works Ministry at the PWD Building in Sembulan near here.

On the issue of non-revenue water (NRW), Hajiji said the state government will get independent investigators to find the source of the 60 per cent NRW, adding that water theft cases are rampant in Sabah.

The Chief Minister also directed State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong to look into the ministry's workforce shortage.
