KOTA BARU: Malaysian teenagers visiting Sungai Golok to attend parties at discos or pubs have been reminded to be cautious, as they may unknowingly consume drinks laced with drugs.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat warned that those drinks could lead to impaired judgment, sensory deprivation, or worse, substance addiction.
He added that those who consumed such drinks – even unknowingly – would test positive for drugs, putting them at risk with the law in the event of a routine drug operation conducted by law enforcement agencies.
"My advice to Kelantan youths who frequently visit Sungai Golok to party on weekends is to be more cautious when going to these places. If possible, avoid them, as mixing with the wrong crowd could land them in trouble," he said at a press conference today.
Aside from consuming spiked drinks, Mohd Yusoff said that drugs could also be mixed with vape liquids.
It was reported that hundreds of youths, especially from Kelantan, crossed into the border town during the recent Deepavali holidays, visiting pubs, discos, and other entertainment venues.
Sources said that the operators of these entertainment outlets took the opportunity to organise various promotions and activities to attract customers. Apart from the alcohol, drugs and other banned substances were also allegedly made available to customers.
"During the recent Deepavali holidays, the organiser of a disco at a hotel, where six Malaysians were arrested last Friday, held a Halloween party to attract customers. The organiser had wanted to compete with the other businesses in drawing Malaysians to their venue," the sources added.
