Technician fined RM1.8k for damaging ex-wife's gate and assaulting fiance

BATU PAHAT: A technician was fined RM1,800 by the magistrate's court here today after pleading guilty to two charges: damaging his ex-wife's gate and assaulting her fiance during a confrontation on last Sunday.

Magistrate Suhaila Shafi'uddin imposed the fines on Muhamad Sofi Zainudin, 28, who pleaded guilty to both charges.

The first charge involved mischief under Section 427 of the Penal Code for damaging the gate of his ex-wife's residence in Taman Ros, Ayer Hitam, at 8.30pm on Nov 3.

The offence carries a possible penalty of up to five years in prison, a fine, or both.

The second charge, under Section 323 of the Penal Code, accused him of injuring his ex-wife's 22-year-old fiance during the same incident, which could result in a one-year prison sentence, a RM2,000 fine, or both.

According to the case facts, the incident occurred when Sofi, frustrated over unanswered calls to arrange a meeting with his child, went to his ex-wife's house. A heated argument ensued, during which Sofi damaged the gate.

The situation escalated further when he struck and kicked his ex-wife's fiance, who was also present at the residence.

Deputy public prosecutor Sharifah Natasha Syed Ahmad prosecuted, while Mohd Razak Shariff represented the accused.

The court imposed an RM800 fine for the first charge and RM1,000 for the second, with an additional two-month jail term if the fines are not paid.
