SHAH ALAM: The armed forces investigation board on the bullying and abuse case involving a Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) cadet officer will conclude its findings on Friday, says Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
The defence minister said the committee, which comprises high-ranking officers from the armed forces, would provide recommendations on the outcome of the probe.
"Based on news reports, police have submitted their report to the Attorney-General's Chambers (A-GC).
"That's what I read from the news. But as for our investigative board, we'll only finalise it this Friday," he said at a press conference after attending the send-off ceremony for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) Malaysian Batallion 850-12 at Subang Air Base near here.
He said the action and recommendations taken by the board would be based on guidelines pertaining to disciplinary matters.
Yesterday, Kuala Lumpur City police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa confirmed that the investigation paper (IP) was submitted to the A-GC.
He said that although the medical report had not yet been received, the investigation was ongoing.
Police have since recorded statements from 16 people and seized a clothes iron, which is believed to have been used in the abuse.
Last Wednesday, the armed forces confirmed it had launched its own investigation into the incident.
The cadet was reportedly abused by a senior officer with a heated iron, leaving burn marks on his chest.
This incident marks the second case of similar abuse at UPNM in seven years.
In 2017, the university was rocked by the death of cadet officer Zulfarhan Osman Zulkarnain, who died after being tortured and burned with a heated iron.
Six former UPNM students were sentenced to death by hanging for his murder.
