SHANGHAI: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has arrived in Beijing on the third day of official visit to China.
He arrived at the Beijing Capital International Airport at 6.10pm, where he was welcomed by the Embassy of Malaysia Deputy Chief of Mission Norfarina Mohd Azmee and Defence Attaché First Admiral Mahadzir Mokhtar.
Also present to welcome him were Assistant Foreign Affairs Minister Liu Bin and China Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing.
Following his three-day meeting in Shanghai, Anwar is scheduled to have a courtesy call with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing tomorrow, where both leaders are expected to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as to exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest and concern.
Prior to meeting with Xi, Anwar will be visiting the Huawei Executive Briefing Centre and Peking University.
Since 2009, China has been Malaysia's largest trading partner globally for fifteen consecutive years.
Last year alone, total trade with China was valued at RM450.84 billion (USD98.80 billion), contributing 17.1 per cent of Malaysia's global trade.
According to the Malaysian Investment Development Authority, China is also Malaysia's fifth-largest foreign investor, with total inflows of RM14.5 billion (USD3.3 billion).
