KUALA LUMPUR: The government will review 164 pre-1969 laws to determine whether they need to be reviewed, retained or subjected to further study.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform), Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said told the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday that this is based on a status review of 3,404 pre-1969 laws.
Of the 164 laws, Azalina 84 are listed for review under the Revision of Laws Act 1968 or to be retained for notification purposes under Section 11 of Act 1.
She added that additionally, there are 80 laws have been listed for further examination by the Attorney General Chambers.
"Another 1,486 laws fall under categories such as 'had its effect/spent/ceased to operate/expired/amended/repealed' or are within the jurisdiction of state governments or Singapore," she said.
Azalina added that outdated laws and acts would either be repealed or replaced with new ones, subject to decisions made by the relevant ministries, departments, or agencies.
