KUALA LUMPUR: Former Public Service director-general Tan Sri Zainal Rahim Seman has been appointed as chairman of the National Farmers' Organisation's (Nafas) Advisory Council.
His letter of appointment was presented by Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu in a ceremony held at Menara Lembaga Pertubuhan Peladang (LPP) here today.
The LPP, in a statement, said that letters of appointment were also presented to three other members of the advisory council and five administrators.
Meanwhile, Mohamad expressed confidence in Zainal's ability to assist the LPP in implementing reforms and improving governance at Nafas.
"Nafas will continue to operate as usual. All business operations, services, and personnel are now under the supervision of the administrators and regulated by the Registrar of Farmers' Organisations (PP)," he said.
LPP director-feneral Amir Matamin, as the PP Registrar, had earlier issued a suspension order against Nafas, which came into effect on Nov 1, in accordance with Section 20(1) of the Farmers' Organisations Act 1973 (Act 109).
Amir, in a statement, said during the suspension period, Nafas would be overseen by administrators appointed by him to handle the organisation's operations and affairs.
LPP explained that the measure was implemented to ensure Nafas could run efficiently and without any interruption, safeguarding the interests of its 605,552 members nationwide. – Bernama
