KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Youth Council (MBM) has called on both the Malaysian government and the United Nations to take action against Israel for its recent attacks on the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon.
Its president Mohd Izzat Afifi Abdul Hamid said the council condemns the illegitimate attack carried out by the Israeli force that has wounded Malaysian Battalion 850 (Malbatt 850) personnel.
"MBM expresses full and unconditional support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's proposal to draft a resolution to expel Israel from the UN.
"Israel's war crimes in the Middle East have crossed all the red lines, have transgressed peace protocols, and have shown complete and utter disregard for international law," he said in a statement today.
Izzat said the council stands with the prime minister in taking necessary policy measures about the brutal and ongoing conflict that involves Israel's atrocities towards the people of Lebanon and Palestine.
He also urged all Malaysians to come together in opposing Israel's illegal occupation and use of force.
"Let us pray for the safety and security of our Malaysian forces involved in the peacekeeping mission in the Middle East," he said.
Yesterday, six Malbatt 850 personnel under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) were injured in a drone strike.
The injured were immediately taken by the Malbatt 850-11 medical officer to Hamood Hospital in Saida for treatment.
Yesterday, Unifil said a convoy ferrying peacekeepers who had just arrived in Lebanon to begin their deployment was hit in an Israeli Defence Force (IDF) drone strike.
The convoy was on its way to southern Lebanon and was passing through Sidon when the attack occurred.
On Nov 6, Malaysia sent its first batch of Malbatt 850-12 peacekeepers, consisting of 220 officers and enlisted personnel, led by Colonel Johan Effendi Mohd Shalleh.
Malbatt 850-12 comprises 854 personnel, including 82 officers and 772 enlisted, with an additional three officers and 27 personnel from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and a civilian financial officer from the Defence Ministry.
The deployment followed the return of the Malbatt 850-11 contingent, which completed its tour of duty there.
