PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia strongly condemned the latest strike by the Israeli Defence Forces in Lebanon, which injured six Malaysian peacekeepers.
Unity government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil said the matter was discussed during the Cabinet meeting this morning, chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
"The Malaysian government condemns the brutal actions of the Israeli regime in the strongest terms and describes the attack as unacceptable.
"The Cabinet and Malaysia condemns the ongoing attacks against Lebanon and United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) personnel, with Malbatt (Malaysian Battalion) being a part of this peacekeeping force," he told his weekly press conference today.
Fahmi, who is the communication minister, said Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin had also responded to the issue during the Cabinet meeting.
"For any further actions, it is best to refer to the Defence Ministry," he said.
Yesterday, six Malaysian Battalion 850 (Malbatt 850) personnel under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) were injured in a drone strike near Sidon, Lebanon.
The Malaysian Armed Forces had said in a statement ,that five personnel from Malbatt 850-12 sustained minor injuries, with one member suffering a fracture on the left arm.
Another serviceman from Malbatt 850-11 also sustained minor injuries.
The incident occurred at 7.54pm Malaysian time near Saida Stadium, Lebanon.
The Malbatt 850-12 personnel were on their way from Beirut to Marakah Camp when the attack happened.
