SHAH ALAM: DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke expressed hope that the new Selangor DAP committee will reflect the country's racial diversity.
Loke said DAP is a multiracial party and he hopes the diversity will be mirrored in its leadership.
Selangor DAP is electing a committee for the 2024-2027 term today (Nov 10).
More than 500 delegates are attending the Selangor DAP convention.
Loke said: "I hope the diversity in DAP, which we always emphasise as a party for all races, will be mirrored in the leadership, especially here in Selangor.
"We have leaders from various races. As secretary-general, I hope this will be reflected in the state leadership.
"However, it depends on the delegates. I can only provide my perspective and hope they will support this direction.
"My aspiration is for DAP to move forward as an inclusive party, one that embraces diversity, not only in ethnicity but also in gender."
Earlier in his speech, he said the committee should include a CIMB representation (Chinese, Indian, Malay and "bangsa lain-lain" (other races).
He added: "With 50 candidates competing for 15 positions, I urge those who do not secure a spot not to be discouraged.
"I don't want to see factions after this election. No Team A, Team B or Team C. I want only Team DAP."
