GEORGE TOWN: Police have confirmed that the murder of a woman and her father in Lengkok Angsana, Ayer Itam, last Thursday stemmed from "unrequited love".
Acting northeast district police chief, Superintendent Lee Swee Sake, said that investigations revealed the 32-year-old local male suspect had romantic feelings for the victim.
"However, the 30-year-old victim was not interested in him," he said.
"Before the incident, the suspect reportedly issued death threats against the victim's family at their home," he added.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect had prior criminal and drug-related records.
"We are still awaiting blood test results to determine if the suspect was under the influence of drugs at the time," he added.
Previously, it was reported that Siti Zulaila Zulkifli and her father, Zulkifli Ibrahim, were fatally stabbed by a man at their apartment.
After the attack, the suspect also inflicted self-injuries by slashing and stabbing himself multiple times. He was then rushed to Penang Hospital (HPP) for further treatment.
The man was subsequently detained and is being remanded for seven days until Nov 14 to assist in the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
It is understood that at least six stab wounds were found on the bodies of both victims.
The remains of the father and daughter were buried together in a single grave at the Kariah Tanjong Tokong Muslim Cemetery at 10pm last Friday.
