CAIRO: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the increase in scholarships for Malaysian students who excel in the medical, engineering and technology fields at the Al-Azhar Al-Sharif University was among three things agreed upon in a discussion today.
The prime minister said, in his discussion with Al-Azhar Sheikh, Professor Dr Ahmad Muhammad Ahmad At-Tayyeb, it was also agreed that a programme on Islamic Science (Ulum Islamiah) be started at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia.
The programme, he said, would be carried out with the cooperation of the Higher Education Ministry and the Al-Azhar Al-Sharif Arabic Language Institute, and would begin in the coming semester.
Anwar said there was also an agreement to respond to Sheikh Al-Azhar's invitation to establish a Majlis Hukama' al Muslimin, led by him, in Kuala Lumpur, by appointing representatives from Malaysia, including a woman.
