SUNGAI GOLOK: Malaysians and other visitors to the popular disco at Genting Hotel here are required to undergo strict checks to ensure they do not bring any firearms, drugs, or other prohibited items.
The hotel's managing director, Sompooh Hongkittiyanonta, said the measure was taken as a precaution against any unwanted incidents.
He said that the rules have been enforced since the three-star hotel was established in 1990.
"There are five discos in hotels in the Sungai Golok sub-province, and the disco here is one of the most popular, attracting not only locals but also foreigners, including those from Malaysia.
"As one of the famous hotels, it is our responsibility to ensure the safety of our guests.
"Therefore, every visitor to the disco must undergo security checks, and if we find they have prohibited items, we will ask them to store them in a safe place we have set up at the disco's entrance.
"We want our visitors to feel safe while in the disco and also when staying in our hotel," he said.
Sompooh said that, in addition to the security checks, the hotel would also allow the police to conduct checks on visitors to the disco.
"Furthermore, we have set other rules for disco visitors, such as not allowing anyone under the age of 20 to enter and prohibiting the use of drugs while inside the disco," he added.
On Nov 1, six Malaysians, including a modern dikir barat singer, were arrested for allegedly possessing 6,000 pills at the hotel.
The six are currently being held at Narathiwat prison pending the police investigation into the case.
