KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry will begin incorporating Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) elements for Year One pupils starting in 2027, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.
Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh said pupils will be exposed to TVET through integrated learning, which combines various disciplines in science, technology, digital studies, visual arts, music, and health education.
"Additionally, Year Five and Six pupils will learn the basics of TVET disciplines such as technology, household science, engineering, programming, and agriculture.
"The learning process is project-based, enabling students to gain knowledge, understanding, and exploration of technology and digital applications in various fields," he said in response to a question from Jamaludin Yahya (PN-Pasir Salak).
Wong said content, skills, and values from various technology and digital fields will be further developed for lower secondary students in Form One, Two, and Three to help them identify their potential and foster their interest in TVET.
"The ministry is confident that this initiative will provide early exposure and allow students to choose a TVET field after completing lower secondary education, that is, after Form Three," he said.
