MACC detains company director over fraudulent foreign worker levy applications

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Selangor has detained another company director on suspicion of submitting levy documents containing false information about foreign worker quota applications.

The fraudulent application, which involved approval from the Ministry of Human Resources, was valued at approximately RM1.1 million.

Magistrate Wan Noora Nisa Ngadirin granted investigators five days to question the suspect at the Shah Alam Magistrate Court this morning.

A source close to the investigation revealed that the suspect, aged in her 40s, was arrested around 5pm yesterday after appearing to give her statement at the MACC Selangor office.

"The suspect is believed to have conspired in this act in 2023 by submitting two applications for 600 foreign workers for a company.

However, it was later discovered that the labour supply for the proposed project did not exist," said the source.

The two applications were linked to a payment of approximately RM1.1 million in levies.

Meanwhile, MACC Selangor director Datuk Alias Salim, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said that the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.
