KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested a husband and wife linked to fraudulent claims related to diesel supply worth over RM650,000 to Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB).
The couple, in their 50s and 60s, were a former chief executive officer and former executive director of a private company.
They were detained after giving their statements at the Sabah MACC office around 11am today (Oct 15).
According to a source, the couple were believed to have submitted around 15 fraudulent claims to SESB in 2013.
"The false claims involved contracts for the supply of diesel for use in electric generator sets believed to be for the company where they were employed.
"The actual diesel supply did not match what was stated in the claims," the source said.
Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrests and said the case is being investigated under Section 471 of the Penal Code.
"Both suspects will be brought to the Tawau Special Corruption Court this Thursday to be charged," he said.
