KUANTAN: The Social Welfare Department has prepared everything in place nationwide to face the northeast monsoon floods.

Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said 8,417 flood relief centres (PPS) had been identified nationwide to house flood evacuees.

"Basic disaster relief items and food supplies have been sent to 563 forward bases. The forward bases will serve as storage points for dry food supplies.

"We have 6,073 registered counsellors ready to reach out to traumatised flood victims at the PPS in case of floods. The counsellors include psychological support staff and volunteers from the department.

"When schools are utilised as PPS, then the food at the forward bases will be distributed to the respective relief centres. Each food kit consists of basic necessities and ready-to-eat meals, including rice, along with chicken or beef recipes that can be prepared instantly," she told reporters after visiting the Pahang Welfare Department food supply depot here today.

On Pahang, Noraini said 861 PPS had been registered at 11 districts across the state and food aid had been stocked up at 165 forward bases.
