KUALA LUMPUR: Works Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, extended his condolences to the families of the victims of the drowning incident during a rafting activity in Sungai Jahang, Gopeng, Perak.
Alexander said that it is a sad day for the Ministry of Works (KKR), particularly the Public Works Department (JKR), as three of its personnel were confirmed dead while attending a course in Gopeng, Perak.
"I was informed that the three victims tragically drowned after being swept away by a flash flood while participating in a fast-moving rafting activity in Sungai Kampar on Friday afternoon.
"According to the initial information I received, the victims include two participants from JKR Langkawi and one from JKR Seberang Perai Tengah," he said in a statement on X.
He added that the ministry is deeply saddened by the tragic news and expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims.
"I am closely monitoring the developments of this incident and have instructed the ministry and JKR teams in the affected state to provide the necessary assistance and support," he said.
