DUBAI: Malaysia could potentially form strategic partnerships with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) that would be mutually beneficial in food supply, managing disaster through artificial intelligence (AI) and green technology.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said his discussions with UAE Energy and Infrastructure Minister Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei on potential collaborations could elevate Malaysia on the global stage.
"I saw the UAE's determination to ensure the availability of food supply in this region by becoming the main centre for the re-export of food products.
"This has created an opportunity for Malaysia to boost exports of halal food products to the UAE and nearby regions.
"There is also potential for collaboration in logistics and port management, particularly using advanced technologies like AI, already implemented in UAE ports.
"It has optimised container handling and boosted logistics efficiency.
"This technology could be applied in Malaysia, helping to expand capacity and enhance the competitiveness of Tanjung Pelepas and Westports," he said.
Zahid said Malaysia could benefit from the advanced monitoring system used by the UAE through Space42, an AI powered space tech company that integrates satellite communications, geospatial insights and AI capabilities.
"This could help Malaysia develop an early warning system to handle disasters more efficiently.
"I also see the to collaborate in the development of data centres with the use of green energy.
"This is because the UAE has invested significantly in infrastructure involving four nuclear reactors that contribute about 25 per cent to the country's electricity supply.
"I also welcomed the UAE's proposal to collaborate with Malaysia in data technology to strengthen security functions and data in our country."
Zahid invited the UAE to attend MIHAS@Dubai at the Dubai World Trade Centre on Monday.
"I have also invited the UAE to attend the second Asean-Gulf Cooperation Council Summit next year where Malaysia is the Asean chair for 2025."
He expressed appreciation for the UAE's support for Malaysia as a BRICS partner country.
"It is hoped the close ties will open more opportunities for Malaysians and position Malaysia as a strong strategic partner globally. Insya-Allah," he said.
Zahid is on his seven-day working visit to the UAE to strengthen ties.
He will officiate MIHAS@Dubai, which is held alongside the Middle East Organic and Natural Product Expo.
MIHAS stands for Malaysia International Halal Showcase.
More than 200 Malaysian entrepreneurs will showcase their products, including 17 from Majlis Amanah Rakyat's Gate to Global programme.
