MoH: No new cases of mpox, 22.8 million foreign travellers screened

KUALA LUMPUR: No new cases of the monkeypox (mpox) clade II variant has been recorded in Malaysia, said Health minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad

"To date, the country has only reported one positive case, which was recorded last September," he said.

Dzulkefly was speaking after the silver jubilee celebration of stem cell and bone marrow transplant services at Ampang Hospital today..

He said the ministry had screened more than 22.8 million travellers entering Malaysia, all of whom tested negative for the virus.

"We are taking precautions to ensure public health safety," he added.

The United States reported its first case of clade I mpox, a more severe strain, in San Mateo County, California.

The California Department of Public Health said the individual had recently travelled from Africa, where an outbreak is ongoing.

On Sept 17, the Health Ministry confirmed a positive case of the clade II mpox variant.

It sid all 10 cases in Malaysia since July 26 last year were from clade II.
