KUALA LUMPUR: The Consumers Association of Penang (CAP) hopes that the Health Ministry (KKM) will heed the suggestion of the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, to fully ban the use of electronic cigarettes, including vapes.
CAP's education officer, N V Subbarow, said that this action should be taken to protect the lives of future generations.
"CAP is pleased with Al-Sultan Abdullah's statement recommending the complete ban on electronic cigarettes or vapes.
"This is news we have been waiting for, including parents and teachers. Thank you, Tuanku," he said in a statement today.
Previously, Al-Sultan Abdullah had recommended that the use of electronic cigarettes or vapes be fully banned. His suggestion followed his concerns over the increasing drug abuse problem in Pahang, particularly among the youth, based on statistics from the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK).
According to His Majesty, one of the main causes of young people becoming addicted to drugs, both directly and indirectly, begins with the use of vapes.
Subbarow further said that the issue of vape abuse is not only happening in Pahang but has also spread to other states.
