Ex-MCA assemblyman Lee Hack Teik dies

KUALA LUMPUR: Former MCA state assemblyman for Pengkalan Kota, Lee Hack Teik, has died. He was 72.

According to China Press, Lee served as the Pengkalan Kota assemblyman for three terms, notably defeating Chow Kon Yeow, the current Penang Chief Minister, in the 1995 general election.

However, he lost his seat in the 2008 election to newcomer Lau Keng Ee, who is now the current assemblyman for the constituency.

After his defeat in 2008, Lee led a semi-retired life.

A trained traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, he continued to treat patients while devoting much of his time to studying Chinese history and the legacy of the MCA.

Affectionately known by the nickname "Six Ang Ku Kueh" (symbolising harmony and prosperity), Lee remained a respected figure in the community, with many constituents continuing to seek his assistance.

Despite no longer holding office, he helped those in need to the best of his ability.
