Outstanding contractors should be considered for future govt projects, says Nanta

SERI ISKANDAR: Contractors who complete projects within the stipulated timeframe and meet quality standards should be considered for future government projects, said Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi today (Nov 21).

He said that he had instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) to prepare a contractor performance report and include companies with proven performance in the list of competent contractors.

Nanta said this initiative aims to encourage contractors to complete projects.

"This is a way to recognise contractors who excel in executing projects, completing them on time, maintaining good quality and adhering to the budget.

"I suggest paying attention to these contractors when considering these contractors for future tenders.

"However, it doesn't mean we will award them the project.

"That depends on the required criteria, as the open tender process also considers the bid price."

He said this after participating in the corporate social responsibility programme for the northeast monsoon preparedness at Section 647 of Jalan Jelapang-Ipoh-Ayer Tawar here.

He said this in response to the success of a company in completing the construction of Seri Iskandar Hospital within three years without any extension of time.

This morning, Nanta and Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad attended the handover ceremony for the hospital, which will begin operations next Monday.

Commenting on the CSR programme, Nanta said PWD, in collaboration with concession company Belati Wangsa, carried out activities such as cleaning weep holes, road curbs, drains, and collecting trash in selected locations.

"Both sides of this road have 900mm U-shaped concrete drains.

"This location was chosen because it is prone to flash floods during heavy rainfall."
