Fahmi praises team behind National and Malaysia Day festivities

PUTRAJAYA: Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has praised the National Day and Malaysia Day (HKHM) 2024 organising committee as an exemplary team for executing both celebrations smoothly and successfully.

Speaking at the HKHM 2024 closing ceremony tonight, Fahmi, who chaired the event's main committee, lauded the team's efforts in managing the National Day celebration at Dataran Putrajaya and the Malaysia Day event at Padang Merdeka, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

"I believe we have an excellent team. Thank you to everyone involved.

"Without your contributions, these celebrations would not have been possible or as well-received," he said in a speech.

Fahmi expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all individuals involved, adding that leading the committee was among his most challenging responsibilities.

He said the commitment and collaboration of the working committee, technical committee, and strategic partners facilitated the successful execution of a series of events that resonated with Malaysians nationwide.

Over 17,000 individuals participated in the National Day parade, embodying a true spirit of independence. Over 100,000 visitors attended the festivities at Dataran Putrajaya.

Adding grandeur to the occasion, the presence of His Majesty, Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia marked their first attendance since Sultan Ibrahim's appointment as King on July 20.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, his wife, and cabinet members were also present.

"This was the first time Their Majesties graced the celebrations, and their presence added a special significance to the occasion," Fahmi said.

Meanwhile, the Malaysia Day celebration in Sabah attracted over 40,000 attendees of diverse ages and backgrounds at the historic Padang Merdeka.

Fahmi said the theme "Malaysia Madani: Jiwa Merdeka" underpinned the importance of nurturing unity and noble values in a multicultural society.

Looking ahead, Fahmi said initial discussions for HKHM 2025 had already started.

"This year's celebrations were further enhanced by increased collaboration with corporate and private sectors, resulting in sponsorships totalling RM4.35 million.

"These included RM2.29 million in cash and services and RM2.06 million in mobile parade floats."
