Don't wait for us to come knocking, DBKL warns PPR defaulters [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Residents of People's Housing Projects (PPR) in the city have been warned to settle their rental arrears or face strict action.

In a Facebook post, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) stated that despite numerous reminders, some residents have refused to pay the monthly rent of RM124.

"There are tens of thousands waiting to rent a public housing unit," DBKL said.

"Those who have been allocated a unit should be grateful and act as responsible tenants by paying their rent."

DBKL said it had to take firm action against defaulters.

"Starting in December, a special task force will take action against PPR residents with arrears, including suspending water supply and terminating rental agreements.

"This is not a matter of affordability but of responsibility.

"The home you are living in is a privilege, not a right. If you fail to respect the terms of your rental agreement, DBKL will not hesitate to act in fairness to other applicants," the statement read.
