PEKAN: Motorists plying the Kuantan-Segamat stretch near here are advised to use alternative routes following the one-week closure at Section 102 of the single-carriageway starting today.
Pekan Public Works Department (PwD), in a Facebook posting, wrote that both lanes will be closed starting 9am today till 9am on Nov 29.
"Roadcare Sdn Bhd will be conducting repair works at the Bailey bridge at Section 102 and the stretch will be reopened once the work is completed. As repairs are carried out, the bridge will be closed to all vehicles.
"Signages have been put up to inform road users about the closed stretch. We seek full cooperation of motorists," read the posting.
Motorists travelling from Kuantan to Muadzam Shah in Rompin are advised to use the Kuantan-Endau road which passes through the town here before exiting at Leban Condong towards Muadzam Shah.
Road users travelling from Gambang to Muadzam Shah can use Jalan Pekan Batu Balik before travelling towards the Kuantan-Endau and Ibam-Leban Condong roads.
For further information on the alternative roads, motorists can contact the Pekan PwD at 09-422 2040.
The road was previously closed on Jan 7 this year after a sinkhole appeared and it was reopened on Jan 28 after repairs were completed. ()
The 30m-long Bailey bridge was built at Section 102 as the sinkhole was being repaired in January.
However, three months later, the bridge had to be closed for repairs after being damaged by heavy vehicles before being reopened again on May 1. ()
The Bailey bridge, which can support vehicles up to 20 tonnes, is supposed to serve as a temporary solution until a permanent bridge is built at a proposed cost of RM17 million.
