PUTRAJAYA: The arrest warrant issued against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is a victory for those who stand for justice and humanity, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said the decision would alleviate the suffering of the people in Palestine.
He described the International Criminal Court's (ICC) decision as reasonable, as it was based on the law and evidence of oppression, cruelty and ongoing killings.
"We welcome the decision and agree that if he makes any visits abroad, he should be arrested.
"This is a confirmation of what has been happening all this while, which is disputed by some, because the ICC is a body that makes decisions based on law and evidence."
He said this after performing Friday prayers at Surau Al-Husna in Precint 9 here today.
Yesterday, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his former defence chief, Yoav Gallant, as well as a Hamas leader Ibrahim Al-Masri, over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The United Nations human rights office on Thursday said it "fully" supported the ICC's work to further accountability.
On Wednesday, the United States vetoed a UN Security Council push to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Commenting on the veto, Anwar said: "That is the US's decision, but I think the world thinks otherwise."
