KUALA LUMPUR: Ninety per cent of the upgrading and repair works for MARA educational institutions (IPMA), including 41 Mara Junior Science Colleges (MRSM), has been completed.
Mara chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the project also encompasses Mara advanced skills colleges and Mara professional colleges.
"Alhamdulillah, nearly 90 per cent of the work has been completed, except for one at MRSM Terendak, which is expected to be finished by mid-December.
"This is due to the high repair and upgrading cost estimated to reach RM400,000 for repairs to severely damaged toilets, teachers' rooms, and dormitory facilities.
"I would like to thank the Mara management team from all levels for their swift action in carrying out the repairs as soon as council members approved the special allocation and I to address the urgent problems," he said in a TikTok video shared on his social media account, yesterday.
In September, Asyraf Wajdi conducted impromptu visits to approximately 40 MRSMs and found that several facilities required significant upgrades.
He described MRSM Terendak as being the most dilapidated and in poor condition.
At the same time, Asyraf Wajdi reaffirmed Mara's commitment to ensuring the infrastructure and learning environment remains in optimal condition, enabling students and staff of IPMA to continue achieving excellence.
"We will still conduct the #terjah (spot checks) initiative periodically at the institutions to ensure every cent of public funds is spent effectively, efficiently, and without leakage," he said.
