Cabinet welcomes ICC warrant against Netanyahu, former Israeli minister

PUTRAJAYA: The government welcomed the International Criminal Court's arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and a former defence chief over alleged war crimes.

Unity government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil said the cabinet commended nations that cooperated with the ICC to apprehend the accused war criminals.

"The cabinet has discussed the ICC's arrest warrants against Netanyahu and a former minister for war crimes.

"The government welcomes this announcement. They will not come to Malaysia as Malaysia does not recognise and has no diplomatic relations with Israel.

He said this during a post-cabinet meeting press conference today.

Yesterday, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his former defence chief, Yoav Gallant, as well as a Hamas leader Ibrahim Al-Masri, over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The United Nations human rights office on Thursday said it "fully" supported the ICC's work to further accountability.
