Anwar: Put aside differences to ensure smooth federal-state cooperation [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on all state leaders, including menteris besar from opposition-ruled states, to put aside political differences and ensure smooth cooperation between the federal and state governments for the benefit of the people.

He said that all meetings between his government and state governments had proceeded smoothly, as discussions were conducted in a constructive manner.

"I have instructed ministers to visit the states and hold discussions with the menteris besar, including those from the opposition.

"The issue of cooperation is very clear: if the state adopts a positive stance, it will make things easier; but if it is hostile, it will complicate matters," Anwar said in a townhall marking the two-year anniversary of the Madani government at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).

Present were Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, cabinet ministers and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

Currently, Kedah, Perlis, Kelantan and Terengganu are ruled by Perikatan Nasional.

Anwar added that meetings with state governments were frequently held, and the discussions mostly involved an exchange of views from both sides, and the federal government would amend its policies as per the state's needs.

He said the process of bringing changes to the country required everyone's involvement, including the state government, civil servants and private sectors in their respective capacities.

Besides, the success of the Madani government in leading the country since 2022 was contributed by political stability, clear policies and the commitment of civil servants.

He stated that the citizens had shown their readiness to collaborate with the government in advancing Malaysia's position on the global stage.

"It must be remembered – this success has been made possible because of a stable political system. That stability is thanks to the cooperation of the country's leadership.

"Many shifts have been made, and the effectiveness of policy implementation is due to the commitment and determination of civil servants who have shown their readiness to undertake reforms and changes. Programme implementation is far more efficient now," Anwar said.
