SEMPORNA: Nine people in a family faced a harrowing moment when their stilt house built over the sea in Kampung Air here collapsed this afternoon.
Semporna Fire and Rescue station chief, Noor Jali Maslah, said they were alerted to the incident at 11am and deployed a team to the scene.
"Upon arrival, we saw that the stilt house, which was built over the sea, had collapsed. We immediately launched a rescue operation," he said in a statement today.
He said firemen rescued all nine people, including a man, three women and five children.
The family were sent to the village's community hall which would be used as temporary accommodations.
