GUA MUSANG: The state Wildlife department captured a wild elephant in Lojing on Friday.
Kelantan Perhilitan director Mohamad Hafid Rohani said the elephant was captured following complaints from the public that the elephant had caused a disturbance in the village.
The complaints, he said were received on Nov 11.
"Following the reports, a wildlife personnel from Gua Musang district went to the village to monitor the situation and captured the wild male elephant on Nov 22," he said in a statement today.
He added that the villagers were relieved that the wild elephant had been captured as they would no longer suffer losses due to the conflict with the animal.
Mohamad Hafid said the relocation operation to release the wild elephant to a safer and more suitable habitat would be carried out soon.
"The operation will be conducted by Kuala Gandah National Elephant Conservation Centre staff in Lanchang, Pahang and Kelantan Perhilitan personnel," he added.
He also urged the public to be extra cautious and alert if they come across wild animals and not to take any action that could harm themselves.
Any complaints or information regarding wild animals can be channelled to the Wildlife Department via the Perhilitan hotline at 1-800-88-5151 or the e-aduan channel on www.wildlife.gov.my.
