Nearly 10 Kuala Krai villages already flooded

KUALA KRAI: Continuous heavy rain has resulted in nearly 10 villages in low-lying areas such as Kuala Nal, Kuala Pertang, and Chenulang here to be flooded since 2pm today.

Kuala Krai Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief Nik Ahmad Afsham Nik Pa said that the water levels in several surrounding areas have also shown an increase due to the heavy rain since last night.

"As of 6pm (today), no victims have been evacuated to the temporary relief centres (PPS) and we hope that local residents remain alert to and careful about any potential flooding in their area," he said when contacted by Bernama today.

"Our team is always ready to evacuate victims who need assistance to move to the PPS and ensure that all documents such as identity cards are brought along to avoid any untoward incidents."

Meanwhile, a resident of Kampung Sungai Embak, Azila Abdul Aziz, 38, said that every year when heavy rain occurs, her house is often flooded.

"My house is in a low-lying area and often gets flooded when it rains heavily, so my family and I will definitely be trapped. Fortunately, I have already prepared enough food supplies for the family," said Azila,

Meanwhile, a Bernama survey found that some local residents have begun moving their cars and motorcycles to higher and safer places after their homes were flooded. – BERNAMA
