KUANTAN: Some 404 hectares (1,000 acres) of state-owned land in Sungai Perdak, Mukim Sabai, Bentong, have been found to have been encroached upon, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said.
He said the encroached area is located in a secluded location, sandwiched between the Lentang Tambahan Permanent Forest Reserve and the border with Negeri Sembilan.
Initial investigations revealed that the area had been planted with durian trees, and the state government is taking this encroachment seriously.
Following this, he instructed the Pahang State Enforcement Unit (UPNP) to take action.
"UPNP conducted a raid at the site today, seizing workers' quarters and equipment found there. I have also ordered the destruction of the durian trees planted to ensure that the encroachment activities do not continue," he said in a statement tonight.
According to Wan Rosdy, the enforcement actions were carried out under Section 426A(1)(c) of the National Land Code (Act 828).
He said the state government will not compromise with any parties violating land laws or tarnishing the integrity of the state's natural resources.
Such encroachment activities not only break the law but can also have adverse impacts on the environment and local communities, he said, adding that those involved in illegal land clearing will face the full force of the law.
"The state government is committed to safeguarding all state-owned land for the benefit of the people and the sustainability of the environment," Wan Rosdy added.
Meanwhile, he urged the public to cooperate by reporting any illegal land-clearing activities and appreciated their efforts in this regard.
"Together, let us ensure that Pahang remains protected and free from irresponsible encroachment activities," he said. – BERNAMA
