RM6,000 incentive awaits Pahang Sukma gold medallists

KUANTAN: Pahang athletes received a timely morale boost ahead of the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2024 scheduled in Sarawak this month.

The Pahang government announced an incentive of RM6,000 to the state's athletes who secure gold medals at the biennial games compared to RM4,000 offered in the previous editions.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the Pahang executive council meeting agreed to increase the gold medal incentive for athletes contesting in Sarawak.

"Gold medal winners in the individual category will receive RM6,000 compared to RM4,000 previously while those contesting in group events will receive RM2,000 each compared to the RM1,000 given in the past.

"The new incentive is to appreciate the commitment and the hard work displayed by the sportsmen and sportswomen who have been spending long hours training to boost Pahang's image to further excel in sports," he said in a statement today.

Wan Rosdy urged the athletes representing Pahang to display a high level of sportsmanship throughout the Sukma games and serve as an inspiration to the young generation across the state.

Pahang, represented by 564 athletes, has set a target to collect 40 gold medals in Sarawak which will be held between Aug 17 and 24.

During the last edition held in Kuala Lumpur in 2022, Pahang finished ninth with 22 gold, 21 silver and 27 bronze medals.
