Flood situation worsens, affecting nearly 36,000 victims across six states

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of residents affected by the floods in six states - Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Perlis, Johor, and Perak - has increased to 35,261 victims from 10,743 families, as of 7.40am today.

According to information from the Social Welfare Department (JKM) Disaster Info Portal, Kelantan continues to record the highest number of flood victims with 29,022 people (8,745 families).

Currently, 150 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) have been opened in nine districts of the state.

In Terengganu, 5,845 flood victims (1,882 families) are sheltering in 144 PPS across six districts, while in Kedah, five PPS have been opened, housing 180 flood victims (58 families).

In Perlis, three PPS are operating, housing 166 flood victims, with one PPS each opened in Johor (28 flood victims) and Perak (20 flood victims).

Of the total flood victims, 11,626 (32.97 per cent) are adult men, 12,537 (35.55 per cent) are adult women; 5,189 (14.72 per cent) are boys; 4,955 (14.05 per cent) are girls; 509 (1.44 per cent) are baby boys; and 445 (1.26 per cent) are baby girls.

Additionally, there are 1,217 (3.45 per cent) elderly men; 1,417 (4.02 per cent) elderly women; 632 (1.79 per cent) men with disabilities (PWD); and 414 (1.17 per cent) women with disabilities.
