KOTA BARU: Kelantan remains secure even as nine police stations in the state have been inundated by floodwaters, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today.
He said Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, who also serves as the state flood operations director, confirmed that security operations remain unaffected despite the floods.
"I was informed that officers from the nine affected stations have been relocated but continue performing their duties as usual. These stations are located in Rantau Panjang and Tumpat," Zahid said during a press conference after visiting flood victims at SK Tapang.
On another note, Zahid, who also chairs the National Disaster Management Committee, said he had discussions with two members of Parliament from Kelantan regarding the worsening floods.
"I met with Datuk Siti Zailah Mohd Yusof (Rantau Panjang MP) and Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz. They informed me that all available assets and volunteers have been deployed, and additional assistance will arrive in Kelantan soon," he said.
Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nassuruddin Daud, who accompanied Zahid, expressed gratitude for his visit.
"I thank the deputy prime minister for his concern and for addressing the challenges faced by the people of Kelantan during this difficult time," he said.
