SHAH ALAM: Bersatu has called on the government to set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to address the influx of illegal foreign workers.
Its president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, said the move aims to establish a policy on foreign workers and their entry.
He said action must be taken to address the issue of illegals.
"This long-standing issue must be resolved before it becomes a ticking time bomb that threatens the nation's security and national identity."
He said this in his speech at the party's annual general assembly here.
The assembly was also attended by the party's leadership, as well as Pas vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.
Muhyiddin said the sovereignty and security of the country are under threat due to the government's unclear and weak policies and actions in addressing issues related to maritime borders.
"The government has allowed foreign ownership in companies that manage assets, broadband networks and strategic infrastructure.
"Despite Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional opposing the foreign ownership of shares in MAHB (Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd) by companies linked to the Israeli regime on grounds of national security and sovereignty, the Madani government has turned a deaf ear to the issue."
Meanwhile, he said the administration is unconcerned about the country's security.
He also criticised the government's performance, saying that an organisation that was once a strong ally of the government had rated it a 'D' recently.
"The 'D' grade is actually being generous. If you were to ask the representatives (here) and the people outside, I believe they would give it an 'F'.
"It seems that the Madanon government's illness has changed from being infected with the syndrome of lying to the syndrome of failure.
"What is the solution? The solution is in the hands of the people and all of you. Change this government in the 16th General Election."
