Meeting soon to determine status of infrastructure projects at Kalimantan border

KUCHING: A special meeting between the federal and Sarawak governments will be held here next month to determine the status of infrastructure projects in the state.

The projects, both ongoing and those that are being planned, were mostly undertaken by the federal government at the Malaysia-Indonesia border separating the state and Kalimantan.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof described the meeting as an "update" on the status of all federal projects along the 1,000km long border.

The meeting came in the wake of his disclosure in August that the RM1 billion allocated by the federal government to develop facilities at the state's border had not been fully utilised.

"We need to know the status of both the ongoing and planned projects, besides the issues faced by those that are lagging or delayed," he told reporters after attending a town hall themed "Stop the threat of scammers, drugs and online gambling".

The event was organised by the Kuching police headquarters and his Petra Jaya Parliamentary Service Centre here today.

The RM1 billion allocation was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in January last year to develop basic infrastructure following the development of Indonesia's new capital Nusantara.

The funds were intended for constructing the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) complexes as well as roads near the border areas.
