Truck crashes into barrier, injures motorcyclist

KUALA LUMPUR: A truck was caught on camera crashing into a height-restriction barrier at the Dato' Onn roundabout near Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), here causing it to dislodge and hit a motorcyclist on the opposite lane, last Wednesday.

The viral video footage showed the end of the metal barrier striking a motorcycle ridden by a man before it pinned the man along with the vehicle to the cement divider.

Firefighters from the Hang Tuah Fire and Rescue station rushed to the scene and freed the victim, who was then taken to the hospital.

Earlier, the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department's Operations Centre (PGO) received an emergency call at 11.22pm.

Senior Fire Officer II Kamazul Anuar Zulkifli, who led the operation, said upon arriving at the scene, the team found the victim and his motorcycle pinned under the metal barrier.

"Our team successfully extricated the victim and handed him over to the ambulance and medical team for medical attention.

"The victim survived but suffered a fractured right arm," he said in a statement today.

A Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage shows the truck colliding with the barrier, causing it to dislodge.

The barrier flipped into the opposite lane, where it struck the motorcyclist.
