KLIA Immigration clearance in just five seconds with QR code

KUALA LUMPUR: The Home Ministry plans to transform traveller entry processes by introducing QR code technology at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), promising unprecedented speed and security.

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said the groundbreaking initiative would reduce Immigration clearance from 15 to 30 seconds to just five seconds, addressing long-standing efficiency challenges at border control.

"This technology will dramatically cut clearance times, and reduce risks of corruption and potential power abuses at Immigration counters," Shamsul Anuar told the Dewan Rakyat today.

The system will allow travellers to quickly scan a QR code containing personal and travel information, potentially eliminating manual checks.

The ministry also plans to expand the technology to other international airports, and land and sea border checkpoints.

Meanwhile, the ministry will construct 44 new motorcycle inspection lanes at the Sultan Iskandar Building in Johor, featuring an advanced T-zone control system that eliminates the need for riders to remove helmets during checks.

The initiative is in response to growing demands for more efficient and secure border management.
