IPOH: The High Court here was told that the body of Muhammad Zaharif Affendi Muhd Zamrie was run over by the tyres of a white Perodua Ativa at the intersection of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Jati, near Meru, last December.
The 16th prosecution witness, Azura Yusoff, 50, said Zaharif, 17, was thrown forward from the motorcycle he was riding and was hit by the vehicle.
The woman said she saw the front and rear tyres on the right side of the Perodua Ativa run over the area between Zaharif's chest and abdomen.
"At the time of the incident, I was in a car near the school's main gate, waiting to pick up my 15-year-old daughter," she said while reading her written statement in front of Judge Datuk Bhupindar Singh Gucharan Singh Preet on the 10th day of the trial involving a senior police officer accused of murdering Zaharif.
The witness, who is a teacher at SMK Jelapang Jaya, explained that she was looking at her phone when she heard a loud crash and saw the white Ativa collide with the motorcycle and the victim.
"The Perodua Ativa then stopped in front of a parked red Proton Saga in front of my car.
"I honked and saw the driver of the car did not immediately get out.
"A few seconds later, the driver of the Ativa, a man, got out of his vehicle and walked towards the scene of the collision," she said.
During examination by Deputy Public Prosecutor Afzainizam Abdul Aziz, the witness confirmed that the accused, Mohd Nazri Abdul Razak, 45, who was seated in the dock, was the driver of the Ativa she saw in December last year.
During cross-examination by defence lawyer M.Athimulan, the witness said she knew the victim was a student of SMK Jati based on the yellow uniform he was wearing.
However, Azura was unsure whether there were any marks on the victim's clothing, as she did not get out of her car and left immediately after her daughter exited the school.
According to the charge sheet, senior police officer Mohd Nazri is accused of murdering Muhammad Zaharif at Jalan Taman Jati 1, near SMK Jati, between 11.45am and 12.32pm on Dec 15, 2023.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police is charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment for 30 to 40 years, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane, if convicted.
In addition to Afzainizam, the prosecution team includes Nasrul Hadi Abdul Ghani, V.Suloshani, and Low Qin Hui, while the accused is represented by lawyers Athimulan, Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid and Aiman Hakim Kamaruzzaman.
