TAWAU: The home of Umno Kalabakan deputy chief, Jerry Kassim, was among three houses destroyed in a fire at Kampung Muhibbah Raya here yesterday.
Jerry said during the incident, which occurred around 5pm, his parents and one of their grandchildren were at the house at the time.
Although the family's ancestral home was completely destroyed in the fire, he expressed gratitude that his family members managed to escape safely.
"I accept this incident with an open heart and consider it a test or destiny from God, believing that there must be a greater purpose behind it," he said when contacted.
Meanwhile, Tawau Fire and Rescue Station chief Jemishin Ujin said they received an emergency call about the incident at 5.18pm.
He added that the fire destroyed two houses completely, while another was 70 per cent burned.
The fire was brought under control by 5.56pm and no injuries or fatalities were reported.
