KUALA LUMPUR: Six million books have been sold through the Madani Book Voucher programme which is aimed at boosting literacy and providing Malaysians with access to quality reading materials.
The milestone was highlighted at an exhibition in Parliament today, showcasing the program's impact.
The event was attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, and Deputy Minister Wong Kah Woh.
The exhibition featured interactive data on voucher distribution, its social and educational effects, and how the program is expanding access to knowledge.
The Madani Book Voucher programme aims to enhance literacy, support the local book industry, and promote lifelong learning.
As of Dec 1, 3.5 million vouchers have been distributed, with 3.2 million redeemed, representing a 93.56 per cent redemption rate.
This equates to over 6 million books, valued at RM262.6 million, helping to grow the local book industry.

It has also fostered digital engagement through the Bookcapital platform, which lists 737,400 book titles from 1,050 active sellers.
The exhibition also included discussions on strategies to sustain the program, particularly in supporting local authors and publishers.
