KUANTAN: The Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, has called on the people not to ignore the role of the Malay language as the national language because it is not just a means of communication but far more than that.
His Highness said the Malay language is a symbol of the country's cultural identity and sovereignty and is the main medium that can introduce the uniqueness of the community's heritage, customs, and traditions to the whole world.
"The state of Pahang, as a state rich in history, nature, and culture, has taken proactive steps by enforcing the use of the Malay language and Jawi script on all business premises and road signs starting in 2020. My decree at that time is a manifestation of our commitment to ensure that our identity continues to be preserved and recognised. Jawi script, as part of the nation's heritage, also plays an important role in highlighting the authenticity of this state," said the Sultan.
He said this when opening a new mosque in Kampung Rengai, Lipis, near here today.
In this regard, Al-Sultan Abdullah called on all the people of this state, especially business premises operators, tourism industry activists, and the general public to continue to comply with and support the regulations. He said that the Malay language and Jawi script must be ensured of its comprehensive usage and not just to meet requirements but as a sign of love and respect for the heritage of the nation.
"I would like to remind you that we do not need to be too excited about foreign languages and cultures to the point of neglecting our own national roots. In an effort to develop the state and open the door to tourists from all over the world, we must not lose our identity. On the contrary, we must ensure that everyone who visits the state of Pahang experiences the uniqueness of our culture and language," he said.
In the meantime, Al-Sultan Abdullah also reminded the residents of this state to be prepared to face the Northeast Monsoon (MTL) following the heavy rains currently, which may bring the possibility of flooding, landslides, and strong winds.
The Sultan said early preparations for MTL are very important in reducing the risk of loss of life and property and in this regard, residents in this state are advised to be aware of weather warnings and advice from the authorities.
"Make sure that families, especially the elderly and children, are always in a safe place. In facing challenges like this monsoon season, we should always rely on Allah SWT while trying to protect ourselves and our families. Hopefully, with patience and prayers, Allah will make all our tribulations easier and protect the state of Pahang Darul Makmur from all calamities," said His Highness.-- BERNAMA
